Eric Schwartz might be the only artist in history reviewed
by "Sing out!" and "Hustler". Sundays in high school were
spent listening to two hours of Doctor Ruth followed by two hours of Doctor Demento,
a fact which helps to explain the comparisons he has garnered to Lenny Bruce,
Pete Seeger, James Taylor, Frank Zappa and Barry Manilow, all of whom Eric counts
as influences. After years in the theatre, Schwartz turned his attentions to
singer-songwritering. A first-rate writer, singer and entertainer, he performs
at Folk Festivals (Kerrville, Philly, Falcon Ridge) clubs (The Bluebird, Club
Passim) Larger venues (The Birchmere, The Ark, The Bottom Line) and comedy clubs
(The Comedy Store, The Ice House) gets airplay on Howard Stern 100, NPR's 'All
Things Considered', Doctor Demento and Air America.
About Holly Near's recording of the
Schwartz-penned "Hattie and Mattie", Gloria
Steinham said "Hattie and Mattie' makes you want
to tap dance and fall in love" - Gloria Steinham
Eric Schwartz has a brilliant
mind, a fabulous musical sensibility, and is not afraid
to sing what other people barely allow themselves to
think.- Christine Lavin
